ዓርቢ ስቅለት / Good Friday

Good Friday, known locally as Siklet which translates to crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ, is celebrated across the country. It is a day of fasting, intense prayer and prostrations. The week of good friday also called The Passion week in the Eritrean Catholic Church tradition is  known as “Semone Himamat” – which translates as the week of pain.  Ritual practices throughout the passion week are meant to commemorate tribulations the Lord Jesus Christ went through including the crucifixion in Golgotha.
